The new bed
Winslow's new bed has yet to be used by Winslow. When I first put it on the nightstand, I did kick Waldo out and I called Winslow over to check it out. He did and then left it to join me on the couch. Well, Waldo & Miss Kitty have decided that they like it and every night is a competition to see who can get there first. Night #1 - Miss Kitty got it. Waldo gave up waiting partway through the night and the two of them snuggled in it together. Last night they took turns. The loser got to sleep on the bed with me where they could be close by and keep watch. As soon as the kitty in the cat bed jumped off the nightstand, kitty on my bed jumped over to claim the spot. Winslow slepted in his closet although there are still two empty cat beds in the bedroom if he wants one.

catnipped
I bought a bed for Winsey today. I bought 2 beds for the cats over Christmas and a crinkly tube. Waldo & Miss Kitty each claimed a bed and Winslow's been sleeping on this really thick cat blanket that I put on the floor in the closet (he chose the spot). Well, he also likes to go on one of the nightstands in my room at night, but the blanket is too big to put on there. So today I bought a bed. Now the point of this story is that it came with catnip. Well, Waldo found the bag of nip - so I put it on this scratch pad that they never use. I sat down to watch some tv and a few seconds later I hear some commotion. Turning around, I discovered Waldo & Winslow in an argument over the newly catnipped scratch pad. Miss Kitty was nearby, the catnip obviously not worth the work. I once again had to get the bag of catnip. I put some on the crinkle bag this time. Waldo & Miss Kitty both went for it and once again Miss Kitty was the timid one (same thing when it comes to feeding time). So the scratch post also got sprinkled and now all the kids are on a catnip high.

Stop looking so darn cute!
Miss Kitty KNOWS better than to scratch the couch. Every time she scratches though, I yell at her and she comes running into wherever I am looking sooo excited that I'm giving her attention - my heart just melts and I can never bring myself to scold her more. Winslow does this somewhat too. Actually, I think he invented the whole 'too cute to be in trouble' technique while Miss Kitty abuses it.
I'm noticing that bathroom runs can be a bit of a family outing. So if anyone ever visits, don't expect privacy as I am often joined by all 3 cats. Showers - I could win money betting that Waldo will appear when I'm done. In my last apartment he would often jump onto the shower wall and straddle it while I was showering. Then of course he would insist on help getting down. I would grab my towel, step out, turn my back to the shower and bend slightly. He would then pounce on my back on his way down to the floor. Next I would sit on the bed - still wrapped in the towel - as Miss Kitty would impatiently wait for me to begin putting on my clothes. Often if I took too long to take off the towel she would begin to paw at it trying to pull it off herself. She likes damp towels and I would leave it on the bed for her to snuggle with. Now the tradition is a bit different. As soon as I turn off the shower water, both Miss Kitty & Waldo come into the bathroom. If the door is closed, Miss Kitty will usually open it for them. Miss Kitty then checks out the cabinet under the sink while Waldo comes and jumps onto the bathtub ledge, some times coming inside for a drink. Miss Kitty loses interest in the shower at the point while waldo follows me to sit in my lap as I sit on the edge of the bed. Ater a few minutes of snuggle time, I dump him and get dressed and we go on with our day. Winslow has no interest in showering traditions.
Another predictable habit of Waldo: he always steals my warm spot. If I leave my bed during the night, garuanteed he's going to be in my spot when I get back. Even if the blankets are everywhere BUT that one spot, he'll be curled up with the blankets around him. The past couple of nights I've been using hot water bottles and when I came back last night he'd found one and was on top of it - hugging it. I told him he could have the other one that I was using for my feet at the end of the bed.

quirky kitty personalities
Waldo ventured outside the front door for the first time today. He and Miss Kitty both ran out when I went to get groceries from the car. So I just left the door open and everyone was back inside by the time I came huffing & puffing up the stairs. Winslow has yet to test the outdoors. I think I saw him slink onto the balcony once, but other than that - he's a big wuss. So funny because I had no idea he was such a scaredy cat when I first took him. When I first met him at the Inn he was always begging or my attention like crazy. Then the first time I ever took him home, he surprised me by hiding under the bed a good portion of the time. He's my constant shadow now, but I have to drag him out if anyone comes. When Krys visited I gave her a bag of treats for the cats and that seemed to do the trick.
Miss Kitty is forever my social bug. Her favorite thing is to lay down on her back with all 4's in the air and look at me all cute like. I can step over her and she won't budge. I recently discovered that Miss Kitty likes to hang out in one of the carriers upstairs. This whole time I thought she must be sleeping in the chair up there because I noticed that she was disappear for hours at a time. The other day I was cleaning litter boxes when I saw her in a carrier. Suddenly things made sense - I had just been questioning her about the shredded newspaper I found on the floor in a couple of rooms (the carriers have shredded newspaper that was used in their flights). I had wondered how it got out of the carriers and now I know... She's a cutie bug!

Miss Kitty & the Scary Nightshirt
Miss Kitty loves it when I'm in bed. She likes to come snuggle right up next to my face. It never lasts long. Usually a few minutes of purring and then she disappears for a few minutes before returning again.
Tonight I was in bed watching tv when she jumped up as usual, but she seemed really hesistant in joining me. I couldn't understand why she was being so skittish, sneaking up ever so slowly and then backing away with this wide eyed expression on her face. Finally I looked down to discover her focus of attention. I had on a nightshirt that says 'I Don't Do Mornings' and shows a huge cat that looks like it's on too much caffeine. The top half of the cat (with the wild eyes and huge teeth) was peeking out from under the covers causing poor Miss Kitty to become too scared to snuggle up to me like normal. I laughed and covered it and all became well again.
Now I must get back to bed because I can hear Waldo & Winslow whapping their paws at each other in the other room.
