Yesterday one of the scratch posts that I had ordered arrived. It's one of those ones with the rope twisting around instead of carpet. On the top there are two fluffy balls that hang off for them to play. The cats are ecstatic. Waldo & Miss Kitty were scratching on it even as I was screwing in the base. I have to pop the top off to hook the balls up - and I lack the finger strength - so for now the balls are on the floor. Huge success anyway. Last night I was watching tv when Waldo came out of the bedroom with one in his mouth. He was followed closely by Winslow. I could hear growling as Waldo was obviously being possessive of the toy. I got up to take the toy away, but Waldo wouldn't let me have it. This resulted in a game of chase. Me going after Waldo who had the toy in his mouth and Winslow following behind. Miss Kitty eventually came out wondering about all the ruckus. I finally gave up and found the other ball for Winslow - although he still eyed the one that Waldo had. Miss Kitty, fortunately for me doesn't seem to care. She still has her bag of mice strewn around.
I plan to post a sign above my toilet reminding us humans to dry off the seat. Last night I heard water movement - a lot of it, before I heard the drinking and my suspicions were confirmed with I turned on the light and found Waldo on the toilet for a drink. Waldo likes his water to move before he begins, so he'll often stick his paw in and swish it around. As a result, he had a soaking wet paw and left a nice trail from toilet to bedroom when he left. Miss Kitty, my dainty girl, is the only one I haven't seen drinking from the toilet so far.

The Playfulness Continues
Nothing but sleep all day long and then the early morning hours come. Waldo & Winslow consistently play a game of tag, often jumping onto the bed to disturb us gals in our slumber.
Winslow continues to drink from the toilet even though the water dish is a mere few feet away. I've noticed now that he also drips water around the rim, making it a bit uncomfortable for me should I not see it in time.
I have FINALLY gotten around to registering Waldo & Miss Kitty with Home Again now that I know their chip numbers. Unfortunately I can't figure out if I need to contact the SPCA back in Belmont to change my address info or if it automatically changes when I registered them as living in CO with Home Again. I guess I need to pick up the phone. I tried to register Winsey, but he's currently registered under the old owner and I lost the transfer form that was sent to me last May. So I have contacted Home Again asking for a new one. I'd hate for the contact circle to be in a huge mess should any of the cats go missing. So far though, none have been allowed outside - and I plan to keep it that way. At least until I get harnesses & leashes, then they'll be allowed to wander the balcony. Although with a snow storm predicted for next weekend, I can't imagine that they'll be tasting the outdoors any time soon.
Winslow has gotten into the habit of trying to crawl under the covers with me every morning. Unfortunately for him, he's a big clumsy cat and can't manage this on his own. I'm not always willing to help out as I am usually SLEEPING. Waldo continues to steal my hot water bottles. Unlike the other two, he is determined to give me as little personal space as possible and will snuggle up as close as he can to me. This morning I awoke to discover that I was pinned into bed by all 3 cats. Each cat had chosen a side to get as close to me as possible. Too bad for them, I had to pee.

An Update
Kitties are doing great! They sleep a lot during the day. This means, of course, that at night they get playful. Waldo & Winslow are becoming buddies, which is really nice to see. Last night (around 2am) the two of them played a good long game of tag. My downstairs neighbors must love me. Miss Kitty is still trying to give Winsey the cold shoulder, but the two of them come off more as an old married couple who like to bicker just for the reaction. Overall she doesn't seem to mind Winsey.
I have some scratch posts on order as Winsey is forever trying to scratch the bed and Waldo chooses to try on the stairs. I can't afford to have these guys tearing things apart, so hopefully they can wait just a couple of more days.
Winslow has chosen the bed to be his favorite spot. Whenever I come home, I usually find him snuggled under the covers all toasty warm. He's lucky I haven't sat on him. Waldo usually hides upstairs while Miss Kitty is the only one brave enough to come greet me. At night - the 4 of us usually crawl into bed together. Even if it means my getting a couple of hot water bottles to keep myself warm due to some blanket hogs. Waldo usually steals the hot water bottles when I leave for a bathroom break, so really - there is no such thing as being nice & warm. It's either one or the other.

funny waldo picture

I will have my cats in just over a week! I applied for a place today and pretty much have the green light to move in on Friday. He just needs to run a credit check (I don't have any) and a criminal background check (does a speeding ticket count? if so, I've already confessed).
Krys sent me a couple of pictures of my babes. I'm posting the one of Waldo because it's so funny. She couldn't find Winsey when she visited. He has a spot at the Inn that I have been unable to find and he'll disappear for hours taking a sleepy nap. Usually he comes out when he hears my voice, but apparently he wasn't interested in a visit from Krys.
